Help! My boyfriend wants my name tattooed on his chest?

    Hi there!

So here's the story, my boyfriend, who I've been together with for about 4 years suddenly (Out of nowhere or perhaps inspired by a friend or something) want my name tattooed on his chest. He told me a week ago and first I was flattered and thought it sounded like a cool idea and told him to go for it. Yesterday he was checking fonts on the internet and kept asking me which I thought was the best one for my name. Then I suddenly realized that he was for real about it... And this became a problem for me.

I think it would be great to have my name on his chest, but what I fear must is that he expect me to do the same, which I have no plans to do what so ever. I mentioned it for him like "Don't expect me to do the same right?" And he smiled and said "I know you will once you've seen me do it".

So now I seriously consider to ask him not to do it. But I do not know if I should let him do it and when he ask me to do the same I'll reply "I told you I wouldn't do it". But I fear he will doubt on my love and think that I don't have plans to stick with him and end up making him feel stupid.

I know it's cool to chain up with a tattoo on each other but the reason I don't want it is that my parents been together for about 30 years and when they "broke up" my dad got a laser operation to remove my moms name from his stomach. It left a scar and he couldn't regret more. I don't want to be in the same situation even though I'm young and feel like me and my boyfriend will be together "for life".

Anyone who have a great advice or perhaps experienced the same situation themselves? Please share your opinions and help me through this. Thanks!

I don't have any experience with the subject, but I know what I would do. I would just say go for it! It's his body, if he wants your name, then let him have it. Just make sure that he understands that you won't get a tattoo with his name before he get it. Then you should be safe if he starts buggin you about it someday ;)

Tell him he should get a symbol that represents you. Not your name! It's the #1 covered up tattoo. Only get names for your parents, grandparents, kids, or pets. These are the only names I recommend.

We talked about it and he decided to get a tattoo with one of his favorite quotes instead as he understood the fact that I wouldn't get his name at last, so it's all good now. Thanks for the replies and the help :-)
